It’s not every day that a saxophone of this caliber comes into the shop—one from the world-renowned “Michael Brecker” serial number range. We’ve seen horns in the 80xxx range in varying conditions, but this one would be classified as very good, with so much of its original cellulose lacquer still intact! This particular horn is quite close to Michael Brecker’s actual Mark VI serial number, which is 86,3xx. What we have here is an absolutely incredible original lacquer 85,7xx 1960 Selmer Mark VI Tenor Saxophone. It features American engraving and has received a full professional overhaul. There is a small dent in the bottom bow that was intentionally left to preserve the originality of the lacquer. Other than that, there are no major dings, dents, or scratches. It’s in overall excellent condition, showing only normal signs of wear. This tenor was previously owned by a professional player and was clearly well cared for. The original neck, with a matching 85xxx serial number, is in AMAZING shape—no neck pull-down at all—and only shows some slight lacquer loss. Although the horn was professionally overhauled outside our shop, it has been extensively inspected and perfected by our shop. It now seals like a drum and is fully set up and performance-ready. This is truly one of the most remarkable saxophones we’ve ever had in the shop. It’s becoming increasingly more rare to find horns like this in such excellent ORIGINAL condition.
